Product Description

This Merlin Titan Outlast jacket features an Outlast, thermal regulating wadded liner. Outlast technology, originally developed for NASA, utilizes phase change materials (PCM) that absorb, store and release heat for optimal thermal comfort.  Outlast technology is comparable to ice in a drink; as it changes from solid to liquid, it absorbs heat and cools the drink, keeping that drink at the desired temperature for longer. The technology absorbs heat when you get too hot and releases it when you cool. Unlike a wicking technology Outlast is proactive in temperature and moisture management, rather than reactive.

I bought the Melin Titan Outlast jacket at the end of last year. Been out in various weather conditions for long rides.
Pros – Feels safe with a strong outer fabric, elbow, shoulder and back protection.
Cons- Outer fabric does not have a high water repellency. First time in the rain the outer fabric soaked in some water especially the impact area’s – chest, upper arms. Second and third time out it got much worse, making the jacket somewhat heavier. Not so nice for the return ride.
    Did stay dry inside though.
The way the neck fastens up leaves a small gap at the top of the zip under the velcro fastening . Been out in the cold wind and you really feel it coming through the gap making the Outlast liner pointless in the cold.

Thanks for leaving feedback Andrew. We will take forward your comments around the neck closure and outer fabric. Regarding the outer material we chose Samtex Taslan, which has a higher water repellency than traditional polyesters at the Titan price point and keeps the jacket at a value focussed price at under £200. We appreciate that while the Reissa membrane worked and kept you dry your return ride could have been more comfortable.
