Product Description

This jacket is sized on one of our winning ladies size patterns and therefore the fit with a huge amount of adjustment can be tailored just right. Colton also features wax cotton from the original manufacturer, Halley Stevensons, Dundee, Scotland in a range of colours from Black, Olive, Grey and Red. New is also the use of Merlin branded waterproof zip moulds which provide easy grip access to adjustments/pockets.

The details don’t end on the outside as Marton Mills, famous for tartan tweed manufacturing in Britain, can be found in the jacket liners (Grey Highlander in Black and Grey, Gordon Red in Olive and Macqueen of Skye in Red).

Care instructions of the waxed cotton can be found on our FAQ’s page.

I really like the style and the quality of this jacket. It feels very well made, with good stitching throughout. It feels very durable and the armour makes me feel well protected.

Personally, I found the sizing came up big. I am 5ft 8in (173cm) and usually a size 10. Initially I tried a medium after trying on another brand and the medium was snug. This Colton in the medium swamped me and actually felt like a large.

I ended up going with the small because of the arm length only. The XS was a nice, snug fit on the body but the arms were too short and rise up when they are outstretched. The small fits great on the arms length wise but they are still a touch loose and the jacket is gappy at the front. The straps to pull it in tighter at the waist and arms make it a better fit but the material is slightly bunched around the back. An XS body with size small arms would have been perfect!

I have put in back armour which has helped fill it out but with the inner liner taken out in warmer months I know this is going to feel quite big.

Also, this jacket doesn’t have one of those corner covers at the top of the zip and it has irritated and scratched my neck if the zip isn’t done right up to the top.

I would give it 4/5 stars because for my frame, personally the size is just not quite there and because of the zip irritation. But, it didn’t stop me buying it because I really love the style and because it is one of the better cut female jackets.

Thanks for the feedback. Glad to hear that you like the styling and ladies specific cut. Regarding sizing our guide would be that a 10 is a Small, rather than Medium. This will explain the difference in fit between brands. Your other comments are noted though for future consideration. Many thanks.
