I bought this jacket last weekend at SMC Sheffield (26/04/14) It’s a really well made & stylish jacket.
I’ve been using it for travelling to work & so far so good. I have to be at work for 6am & this has dealt with the chilly mornings
brilliantly, to the point that I’m only having to wear a t-shirt. I’ve not tested it in a full on downpour yet, and neither am I going to stand in the back garden getting hosed down just to see if it leaks anywhere, but I’m sure when the time comes it will perform exactly as it says on the label.
All in all a quality piece of kit for the money & I’m sure I’ll be wearing it off the bike too when the winter comes back around.

I recently purchased this armitage jacket and I must say how impressed I am with the quality. It feels like a true classic wax jacket and the fit is excellent.

    Excellent.
Picked up this jacket about two months ago and I can’t recommend it enough. I’ve been riding in the recent winter weather too and it’s proved warm, draught free and totally dry.
Zips and buttons work easily and feel strong and secure; doable with gloves on too. I was surprised and pleased at how warm the liner is, in fact I’ve had to take it out a fair bit as I’ve been too hot! The jacket feels and looks quality and off the bike it’s easy to wear around and doesn’t look huge , in fact many folk are surprised to see it’s actually a bike jacket. I like the padding and protection though the forearm/elbows have a tendency to slip down.
Sizing wise I think they come up quite big, I’m 6’5 and about 110kg, I got the XL and it’s a snug fit with the liner in.
Overall I looked at lots of different jackets and at this price with a liner and protection it’s a great buy

I don’t normally write reviews, there’s plenty of other people out there with more time on their hands than me, but I just felt so strongly about this jacket. I bought the olive one and I loved the look of it straight away but was a bit hesitant as I bike a lot and thought for that price its gonna be just average to poor. But no, having done a good few miles this winter, it’s been very comfy and warm. The quality is fantastic for the price and feels very durable. I also have a Belsfaff ” brooklands” for summer and, ok the quality of the liner is a lot better but is it worth twice as much???? In short, the Merlin it is a very fine jacket.

    :

Well done on a great jacket, I picked this jacket up at the bike show in Feb, so have worn it a few times in the colder mornings so when I recently did a 250 mile round trip leaving earlyish morning I took a chance on no thermal top & just a tee, it didn’t dissapoint, I was toasty & for me the fit was spot on & the cut at the back meant I had no riding up, like a few of my jackets do. Great style, loads of pockets, warm & comfortable……. For some reason I can’t set the rating, but I give it full marks

    :

I bought this yesterday so bit early yet to comment on capability. I liked it cos it was a bit larger than other XL’s (I’m 6’1″ and 15 stone and wanted to make sure I could get a jumper underneath). Loved the colour and all felt well made for the price.

Having previously owned Merlin Kit and been pleased with it I took the plunge and bought this jacket. Compared with other similar jackets it seemed way to cheap but…. I am SO VERY PLEASED !
I have just done a six day tour of France in cold and very wet weather as well as (luckily) a few warmer days. Previously I would of put my over jacket on. This time I thought I would risk it and see if it leaked in heavy rain and good speeds. It did not leak at all. The cuffs were long enough and easy to pull down over my gloves cuffs to stop water ingress there and after several hours of driving rain I remained warm and dry. In the warmer weather it remained supremely comfortable.
I have to say it looks fab off the jacket as well despite the armour. This is a BRILLIANT jacket. 99/100. Why lose 1%? well I have a fattish neck when rugged up and I am trying to find a way to extend the poppers to allow for this. Such a minor detail considering.
May try their helmet next, which carbon? Sounds awesome.

As an owner of a couple of Belstaff jackets, I am really impressed with this jacket, both from the build quality and style.

I bought one of these jackets from Perth Motorcycles last year as my Textile jacket of 7 years needed replacing,
    It looks absolutely superb
Well it has nailed every type of weather and kept me watertight even in a torrential storm for 4 hours in Spain and kept me really warm with a fleece underneath in January.
It looks great and my wife has the black ladies wax cotton too.
Fit is good the armour in correct place for me and the removable lining is great.
I have had Belstaff jackets in the past and can honestly say that this is as good.

I bought this jacket earlier this year on a bit of a whim. I’ve got a tired 13 year old textile that needs replacing; not any more. I’m so positively surprised at how this jacket performs. Rain seems to bead off of the surface instead of immediately soaking through to the waterproof membrane like they do in technical textile jackets. Having the waterproof membrane too is reassuring. In the sunny weather it doesn’t seem to get as hot as the textile jacket either.
I’m just wondering how good the Merlin wax trousers are now!

Forget your preconcieved notions that only Italian ‘labels’ are acceptable, this is one stylish, practical, quality jacket that works in so many ways !
I simply cannot recommend it enough !

    :

Have been riding for 45 years and tried out / worn out many riding jackets. The Merlin Armitage is NOT , in my view an all purpose jacket. Nor a jacket for a modern superbike person. If you are feeling flush , want the best weather and safety protection buy a Klimit or Rukka. But if you are looking for style, comfort and a fair price and hanker after a traditional waxed cotton type, this is probably one of the best. It is reasonably water proof- have tried it in a heavy downpour and had no leaks but cannot say what it would be like after a few hours in the saddle but this is not what this jacket is about. It copes with the cold, takes gloves inside or outside the sleeve effortlessly and is so comfortable and stylish in that vintage sort of way ,that I feel comfortable wearing it socially. Go and buy one now . They discounted at many bike shops. Grab a bargain but don’t expect

I bought this jacket early 2016 as it looked right for my older bike and it’s the perfect length too. I trusted it to be my only jacket in September 2017 on a trip to Glemseck 101 and it was faultless, even when after 1 hour of rain riding I realised that my phone and passport were in the top outside pockets I was delighted (understatement) to find them bone dry at the earlier than anticipated fuel stop.
I now wear it on my sports bike as it’s got pockets for stuff, keeps me back warm and I don’t look like an ADV biker clone :-)
